Have you ever felt a deep loneliness, as if you were stuck at the bottom of a well without light? Are you unable to leave your bed even when the sky is blue and the sun is shining? Do you feel a general unease about your life and how it fits in the world around you? Are you having difficulties focusing, feeling irritable, stuck with hopeless emptiness that never seems to end. Are you struggling to sleep, waking up in the middle of the night?

Depression is exhausting. Not only does depression tax you mentally but physically as well, to the point where every thought, feeling, and movement feels like pushing a boulder up a hill. The question “Why bother?” constantly sneers at you. So that, every aspect of life is affected: family, work, even leisure time—those moments that are supposed to be free from all burdens become trapped in depression’s never-ending cycle.

Depression Affects Millions and Millions of People Worldwide

If you have depression know that you’re not alone. I know that may provide little comfort because of the very nature of depression, but still the feeling is widespread. The Anxiety and Depression Association of America estimates that 322 million people around the world are living with depression. There’s no single cause that triggers depression either. Major life changes such as losing a job, a spouse, or moving, may initiate depressive feelings. At the same time, depression can creep into your life from seemingly nowhere, making those spiraling negative feelings seem all the more hopeless.

Yes, There is light at the end of the tunnel

You are not stuck feeling depressed. Treatment exists for your particular depression through therapy, no matter how debilitating your situation may seem. The first thing to understand is that depression is no fault of your own. It’s an illness that affects millions of people who all lead vastly different lives. Many go without treatment and have to try and endure what can be an immovable, suffocating pressure that makes even the simplest actions painful. To do so they turn to treating the symptoms through medication and drugs, which provide short term relief but often exasperate those negative sensations in the long term.

The solution is compassionate and effective therapy. My treatments always begin the same way, by being a considerate listener. What I seek to do is foster a relationship, because you know yourself better than anyone else, and only by working together can we work out an effective solution. There is no single maxim, or piece of positive advice that will help you overcome depressive thoughts. What’s needed is a relationship dedicated to exploration to connect the dots that lead to your depression, and then finding the means to make those negative feelings tolerable and workable.

Working together, we’ll identify the negative patterns of behavior and thought that lead you to a depressive state. We want to untangle the learned patterns to help you cultivate a new relationship with yourself, your community, and your world. That means leaving sessions with a workable skillset you begin applying everyday. The more you practice the techniques we develop the more you’ll reign in those depressive feelings and learn how to live with them and overcome them, rather than being ruled by your depression.

By the end of our work together I hope to help you be actively developing a meaningful relationship with life.

Every person experiences depression in their own way. There are differences not only inseverity but the length of time depression lasts, and the way the condition manifests itself will often look very different between two people.

I’ve tried depression therapy but it didn’t work, what makes your approach any different?

Every therapist has their own approach to their practice. In the same way that everyone leads different lives, no two therapeutic approaches resemble one another. And there are many intelligent, well -intentioned therapists working today. What I stress in my own approach is a practical solution, one that tackles learned patterns of behavior that spark your depression. From there we move on to developing an understanding with the self. But we have to take care of basic needs such as eating and sleeping first before we can take care of

If this sounds like an approach you have yet to try then I encourage you to seek help today.

How am I supposed to seek therapy when I can barely function in my day-to-day life?

You’re already reading this aren’t you? If you’re here on this page it means you’re seeking a solution to help you take control of your life back from depression. You’ve already taken the first step. And that step is often the most difficult part of the entire process.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about.

How do I know I’m depressed and not just sad or unhappy?

It’s fair to say that the term “depression” gets thrown around more often than it should. Everyday sadness or feeling a bit lonely is not depression, especially when the feeling is fleeting, or only a lingers for a few days or so. Depression is a persistent feeling of hopelessness that lasts weeks, maybe even months. It appears in a wide range of ways, from physical aches and pains such as headaches, to a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed.

Depression is a state in which a person has fallen out of sync with their inner life. They no longer feel connected to the world around them, as if they’re watching themselves from a distance.

I’m not interested in taking medication and don’t want to start medicating myself for my depression.

While many therapists do suggest medication to complement therapeutic healing I do not incorporate medication into my own treatment unless the patient is already subscribed. It’s important to know that medication treats symptoms but not the cause. I want to help you identify the causes of your depression to help you live a more fulfilling and meaningful life today.

To do that I emphasize self-care.

I invite you to call me at (XXX) XXX-XXXX for a phone consultation to discuss your specific needs and any questions you have about anxiety disorders, therapy and my practice.
